International phonetic congresses: The shift in research practices and areas of interest over 44 years
نویسنده
چکیده
There is no doubt that phonetics is nowadays a wellestablished research discipline with a long history of its existence. The success of the first phonetic congress held in 1932 in Amsterdam gave rise to a regular series of creative meetings of phoneticians and speech scientists from across various disciplines, presenting an opportunity for fruitful discussion. The current paper addresses the development of phonetics from the perspective of two congresses separated by 44 years, during which time the field was substantially transformed in many respects. The data are based on the proceedings from the 6 th ICPhS (Prague, 1967) and the 17 th ICPhS (Hong Kong, 2011). The two congresses are compared in terms of both participants and presented papers, with a special focus on topics of the papers and methods used in experiments.

Background & Aim: One of the most important ways of scientific promotion of congresses is to evaluate abstract of articles and getting feedback from them. This study aimed to evaluate abstract of articles presented in the nursing and midwifery congresses during 2010-2015 from different aspects. Methods: This is a descriptive/cross-sectional study which conducted on all abstracts presented in...
متن کامل35 years of ICCH: evolution or stagnation of circumpolar health research?
The first Circumpolar Health symposium took place in Fairbanks in 1967. Approximately every three years since, an increasing number of researchers have met to present and discuss the health conditions of the North. We analysed the proceedings from the 11 congresses and the abstracts from the 12th congress in 2003 and found a shift of focus from biology to sociology of health. Today, circumpolar...
متن کاملNational states and international science: A comparative history of international science congresses in Hitler's Germany, Stalin's Russia, and cold war United States.
Prior studies of modern scientific internationalism have been written primarily from the point of view of scientists, with little regard to the influence of the state. This study examines the state's role in international scientific relations. States sometimes encouraged scientific internationalism; in the mid-twentieth century, they often sought to restrict it. The present study examines state...
متن کاملSpatiotemporal analysis of remotely sensed Landsat time series data for monitoring 32 years of urbanization
The world is witnessing a dramatic shift of settlement pattern from rural to urban population, particularly in developing countries. The rapid Addis Ababa urbanization reflects this global phenomenon and the subsequent socio-economic and environmental impacts, are causing massive public uproar and political instability. The objective of this study was to use remotely sensed Landsat data to iden...
متن کاملA Systematic Method to Analyze Transport Networks: Considering Traffic Shifts
Current network modeling practices usually assess the network performance at specified time interval, i.e. every 5 or 10 years time horizon. Furthermore, they are usually based on partially predictable data, which are being generated through various stochastic procedures. In this research, a new quantitative based methodology which combines combinatorial optimization modeling and transportation...
